Black Arts Revamped highlights the Black Art Movement by exploring today’s Black aesthetic amongst Cincinnati’s artists. The Black Art Movement confronts and mobilizes artists to use their works to empower, share the Black experiences of racism and marginalization, and push for political and social equity. This film will discuss their ideologies of culture, identity, perspectives and drive to create art that’s meaningful and accepted by everyone. This film will convey Black artists need to be documented, their history preserved for future generations to learn, make an impact, and be a part of social change. This mini-series project will tell the story of modern African American artists living and deceased in the Cincinnati area, their struggles and triumphs through film. In many cases, their families may not have preserved their legacies, and in some instances of the fortunate ones, they have become a part of someone's collection. The overall purpose of this documentary is to showcase our living artists and preserve their legacy. 15 African American contemporary artists, collectors, friends, and family members of artists have been interviewed. Their stories will give us a glimpse of the diversity of the Black Art World from a regional perspective. This project will also pay homage to deceased Artists, their legacy & impact on the Community & Art World.
Below you will find clips of interviews that will be included in the final production.
